Anderson House Brings the Past to Life

In December, the Anderson House, a Herscher Area Historical Society museum, had a “hands on” explanation of the work involved in taking care of a family in the early 1900’s when they provided a tour for the great-grandchildren of Bob and Zandra Cross.
The children had been reading the “Little House on the Prairie “ series and were anxious to dress the part for their tour.
They learned of actual candles on a Christmas tree, how heavy the irons were at that time, and the work involved in keeping a wood stove going.
They even thought they recognized the tune playing on the Pate or Victrola.
Museum guides will give private family tours as time allows. Contact the museum at: 815-426-2627, or Carol Desch at 815-426-2292 to schedule a tour.
