Charity Auction Raises $35,000

Darren Lovell looks for “old time hockey” fans as he displays a Bobby Hull framed jersey during Saturday’s Christmas Charity Auction hosted by The Athletic Club in downtown Herscher. Once all bids were in, the auction had cleared over $35,000 which will be distributed to several local charities during the holiday season.

Herscher’s annual Christmas charity auction season experienced its usual successful kickoff on Saturday thanks to generous members of the community. The Athletic Club, hosting its Thanksgiving weekend auction, sold a collection of both common and unique gift items and raised more than $35,000 in the process.

For example, 30 Christmas cookies sold for $2,750 and a homemade German chocolate cake brought $1800.  A handmade trunk, made by Philip Holt in honor of Leaving Isaac’s Tracks, was auctioned for $7000.

The scene will be repeated on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 1 pm when the Pub on Main hosts its annual downtown Herscher charity auction

In both cases, proceeds are funneled through the Herscher Foundation and distributed to a wide array of local charitable causes. Auction items for the Dec. 14  holiday sale are now being accepted at the Pub on Main.
