The 44th Annual Herscher Corn Bowl was, according to coordinator Lisa Scanlon, “a huge success!” However, behind the scenes, supplying corn for the event was an issue, even through Thursday.
Scanlon continues, “Paul Degrou, a St. Anne area farmer, graciously donates sweet corn for the Corn Bowl every year and we cannot thank him enough for doing so. This year, as you know, corn has been harder to come by. We checked in with Paul all week and he couldn’t find any.”
Scanlon and her husband, Kory, then contacted local sweet corn grower, Brian Janssen, who came to the rescue with 100 dozen ears, which he donated in Degrou’s name. Scanlon raves, “These are two stand up guys who we are proud to have in our community.”
Janssen’s corn is a local favorite with sales in locations throughout the community.
