Deb Scanlon has been chosen as the Herscher Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 Citizen of the Year.
Dan Martin, Chamber President, summarized her involvement at the annual Chamber of Commerce dinner on Friday.
“Scanlon has been chosen for her dedication to the community. She is very active in the Lions Club, spearheads the Herscher Spring Fling, and is one of those people who doesn’t get their name in lights, but she is always available to lend a hand. She is the person who is at the ticket counter for the beer tent all day, every day of the celebration.”
Scanlon also hosts a monthly bingo bash at Harvest View Senior Living complete with treats and prizes.
Although Scanlon was unable to attend the event due to a previous commitment, she appreciates the award.
She states, “I would just like to thank the chamber for this award, I am truly honored to receive it.”
The Community Service Award, originally proposed by Don Lockwood, has been awarded since 1981 to those who have been important to the community.
Lockwood termed it “Herscher Pride.” He stated, “It’s something I never saw in a community until we moved here. And, it’s very important that it be kept alive.”
Scanlon is the 47th recipient to be recognized for keeping Herscher’s pride alive.
