The Herscher CUSD2 board meeting took place on Tuesday, July 13. 

At the meeting, there were several people in attendance who were eager to find out if masks would be required next year for students.

They were pleased to find out that masks will be required only on school buses (as long as there are no further state restrictions in the future).

They even broke into applause upon hearing the news. 

Supt. Rich Decman cautions that new state mandates could change the policy. 

Letters will be sent to district families regarding the policies in early August. 

In addition, Decman declared a $600,000 surplus for the past fiscal year. 

Next year’s preliminary budget shows a $300,000 - $400,000 deficit.

There was discussion about a letter of board support for the Heritage Prairie Wind/Solar project, which is being proposed along Rt. 17 and north of Bonfield. The decision was tabled until next month when the board requested a presentation from the representatives of the project.

A 5-year superintendent contract was approved for the 2021/22 through the 2026/27 school year.

Regarding personnel, Paula Denault - Herscher Intermediate School Grade 3 – has requested that her retirement take effect immediately. It had been approved for the end of 24-25 school year.

Cara Anderson – Limestone Middle School P.E. teacher and Athletic Director, and Danette Maxwell – Herscher High School Family and Consumer Science/Foods have resigned. 

Todd Schwarzkopf, who currently is the Herscher High School Athletic Director, has been hired to replace Anderson as the LMS A.D.

Andrew Boudreau was hired for – LMS P.E. pending licensure from ISBE.

Erica Grady – HHS Parapro, and Jessica Hoy – BGS Parapro have resigned.

And, Stephanie Thorson was hired as an LMS Custodian.
