The Covid -19 Pandemic has reared its ugly head in the County West area. In March, few area residents knew of anyone who had experienced the virus. Now, almost everyone knows someone who has been touched by it. In fact, Kankakee County has received national attention for its latest surge in positive cases.

As a result, annual holiday traditions have been adjusted to keep friends and neighbors safe. One of those events is the annual Herscher Athletic Club Charity Auction. This year, the auction will not take place. Instead, there is an appeal for donations to help sustain the Herscher Foundation’s ability to help those in need of assistance. Donations can be sent to: Herscher Foundation, P O Box 71, Herscher, Illinois 60941. (See the ad on page 8 for further information.)

Also cancelled is the annual Herscher Cooks Up Dollars for Scholars scholarship event hosted by Herscher School District’s teachers. In order for them to continue giving scholarships, donations are requested. Donations can be sent to: Hollie Lovell, Herscher Intermediate School, 391 N. Main St., Herscher, IL 60941. (See page 8 for more information.)

Austin Scott’s Humble and Kind Foundation  is collecting items for Chemo Care packs which will be delivered to hospitalized cancer children in mid-December. (See page 3 for more information.)

In addition, Country Chevy is accepting Toys for Tots until December 12. Bring your unwrapped toy and place it in the designated box.

Any of these causes will appreciate your gifts, this year more than ever.
