On July 10, 2021, Dean Troutman, age 90, set off on his 3,500 mile quest through Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
While this is his longest trek so far, it’s certainly not his first.
In 2014, Dean Troutman walked 700 miles around Illinois to raise money for Troutman Park, which was established in memory of his late wife, Dorothy (Peggy) Troutman. Through the support and generosity of the communities and people along his route, Dean successfully raised $70,000 to install a playground at the park for families to enjoy.
A year later, Dean felt like he still had more walking to do. This time, he wanted to walk for a different community: the children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. On Troutman’s Trek 2 Memphis, Dan raised $10,000 by walking 500 miles from Princeville, IL to Memphis, TN.
This year, Dean’s trek is even longer, and his fundraising goal is higher—walking from Illinois through 15 states and back to Illinois. Dean plans to spend a year sharing his mission with communities along his route. With the help of those he meets, he hopes to raise as much as he can for St. Jude.
His dream is for everyone to donate $36 which accounts for a penny a mile. He hopes you can join him in following his journey, donating what you can, and sharing his journey with everyone.
You can help Dean meet his goal by donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Pledges can be made directly to St. Jude through Dean’s fundraising page at: TroutmanTrek.com
