On Saturday, February 2, members of U2CT (Unit 2 Classroom Teachers) treated fellow faculty, administrators and members of the community to an evening of food tasting and prizes at the annual Dollars for Scholars event held at the Herscher Legion. 

First place for the main entrée was a Slow roasted Deli Roast Beef made by Jodi and Dan Martin representing Limestone Middle School. Second place went to Bonfield Grade School teachers Kristi Hendershott and Brook Roem-Williams for their Buffalo Chicken Sliders. 

In the appetizer category, BGS prevailed with Corn Dip created by Annie Maier and Kristen Wise. Second place went to Herscher High School’s Larry Haig for his Churched Up Meatballs. 

The best side dish was awarded to Teresa Cotter and Kristina Hubly of BGS for their tasty Cracked Out Tater Tot Casserole. Second place was Loaded Potato Salad served by Herscher Intermediate School teachers Bridget Hoffman and Sheri Elzinga.

In the dessert category, Ooey Gooey Butter cake made by Peggy Heck and Annie Howell of LMS was voted the winner. Oreo Balls, created by BGS teachers Becky King and Claire Southard, garnered second place.

The emcee for the evening was Brett Miller. Door prizes and raffle baskets donated by faculty, school groups, and the community were awarded during the evening as well.

The night definitely accomplished its goal by providing scholarship money for Herscher High School students.

According to Hollie Lovell, a coordinator, “This year we raised $9600. Over the last four years, this event has made it possible for U2CT to give out $24000 in scholarships. After expenses are paid this year, we hope to provide 7 $1000 scholarships.”
