Unit 2 Teachers Cook Up Dollars for Scholars

Reminiscent of the cafeteria serving line, the hungry crowd stops by each station to get a sample of the delicious foods at the Dollars For Scholars scholarship fundraising event on Saturday. On Saturday, February 1, members of U2CT (Unit 2 Classroom Teachers) treated fellow faculty, administrators and members of the community to an evening of food tasting and prizes at the annual Dollars for Scholars fundraising event held at the Herscher Legion.

This event has made it possible for U2CT to distribute $33,000 in scholarships in the first five years.

First place for the main entrée was Bellies and Buns prepared by Bridget Hoffman and Amber Bauer representing Herscher Intermediate School. Second place went to Bonfield Grade School teachers Kristi Hendershott and Brook Roem-Williams for their Chicken Tacos

In the appetizer category, Limestone Middle School won with Crack Chicken Dip created by Cara Anderson. Second place went to Bonfield Grade School’s Janice Duay and Lisa Spenard for their Chicken Bombs

The best side dish was awarded to Jessica Brinkman of Herscher High School for her tasty Cornbread with Jalapeño Honey Butter. Second place was Sunflower Crunch Salad served by Herscher Intermediate School teachers Hollie Lovell and Kelly Tobey.

In the dessert category, Apple Dumplings made by Ashley Howell and Kristin Siebring of Limestone Middle School was voted the winner. Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundaes, created by Herscher High School teachers Kerri Robinson and Morgan Daily, garnered second place.

The emcee for the evening was Brett Miller. Door prizes, and raffle baskets donated by faculty, school groups, and the community were awarded during the evening as well.

According to Hollie Lovell, a coordinator, “This year we raised $9000. Thanks to everyone that donated to and attended Dollars for Scholars.  Year number 6 was once again a successful year and we can continue giving back to our students!  I truly love our district!”
