Terry Atchison, 71, of East Peoria passed away at his home May 8, 2020. He was born January 29, 1949 in Centralia, IL, the son of Lee and Betty Atchison. Terry was born during a snowstorm, which took three vehicles to get his mother to the hospital. Snow and snow removal would follow Terry and played a large part of his work later in life. He married Anita Max on August 6, 1977 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher, IL.

Terry graduated from Herscher High School in 1968. A veteran, he served in the US Navy from 1968 to 1972.

Terry owned and operated the Herscher IGA during the 1990's. He worked various wholesale and retail sales positions during his life. He eventually ended his career as the Road Commissioner for Pilot Township until his retirement in 2011.

Terry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church while in Herscher and later Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria. He was also a member of the Herscher Lions and one of the original three founding fathers of the Herscher Corn Boil (Bowl). He enjoyed cars, golf and Nascar, but more than anything, Terry loved his family and his friends. He will forever be remembered for his many, many “Terryisms.”

Surviving are his wife Anita, one daughter Paige (Wes) Keller of Seneca, two grandsons, Maxson and Callan, one brother Steve of Dwight, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jackie and Bob Brown, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Carl and Patricia Max, an aunt and uncle, Sharon and Steve Rotemeyer of Centralia, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lee and Betty, Terry was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Atchison, aunt, Wilma Peterson and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held in Herscher at a later date in June.

Memorials may be made to the East Peoria Fire and Rescue at 201 West Washington Street, East Peoria, IL  61611, family wishes, or to the respective donor's choice.
