Mario N. Buono, 82, of Kankakee passed away June 3, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born October 18, 1936 to Mario J. and Mary (Discala) Buono in Stamford, CT. He married Evelyn Cahan (Mau) June 3, 2006 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Kankakee, IL
Mario graduated from Tri-State University and was the owner of Mario’s Market in Kankakee and the comptroller for Scot Lad Foods for 30 years. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Herscher. Mario was an avid baseball fan especially the New York Yankees. He collected Eagles, enjoyed playing Euchre and loved his cat Vito.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Bourbonnais, 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law; Mario H. (Dorothy) Buono of Camdenton, MO, Anthony (Brenda) Buono of Kankakee and Joseph A. Buono of Port Charlotte, FL, a daughter and son-in-law, Ann (Marcus) Johnson of Eugene, Oregon, 2 stepsons; Douglas (Laurie) Mau of Kankakee, Michael (Teresa) Mau of Kankakee, a step daughter, Cheryl (George) Fozzard of Bonfield and 11 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Angela Sullivan of Naples, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Maryann (Starr) Buono and a sister Bellie Catino.
The visitation will be 4- 8 pm, Friday, June 7, 2019 at Schreffler Funeral Home, Kankakee Chapel. The funeral will be 10 am, Saturday, June 8, 2019 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Father Stan Drewniak will officiate. Burial will be at Limestone Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Ryker’s Foundation for Pompe.
