The Herscher girls volleyball team is off to a strong start. The Tigers are 20-1 half way through their season. On Tuesday, September 24, the team got their 19th win against the Manteno Panthers.

Coach Joel Huizenga said, “I liked the way we played that night. We handled the pressure of the event pretty well. It was a great crowd and we fed off their energy. Manteno showed us that they are going to be a force as the season continues. We will have to be prepared to go there, that is for sure.”

The game was a two set thriller (25-23) (25-20).

“I think we played really well. There is always room for improvement, and I am really excited to see what it’s like to play Manteno again. They are really good competition and we have to fight for a win,” stated player Claudia Huston.

This win put Herscher (7-0) on top of the ICE conference.

“The Manteno game went great! Everyone played really well, and our serving was key in keeping them out of system. Our passing was also spot on and everyone really connected,” said player Maddy Offerman.

“I think the game went really well because we kept them out of system with our serving and never let them get a run of points. We were really scrappy and our blocks were doing really well throughout the game,” added player Jordan Pierce.

The fans also pushed the players to do their best.

Player Olivia Ruder said, “The game was awesome, we really wanted Manteno and went at them with everything we had in all aspects of our game. The atmosphere in the gym was unreal. Our fans went insane and it brought a lot of energy to the court.”

The Tigers play tonight in Lisle.
